Published by Justin D Joseph on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 9:00 am.The “Great White Way” is getting a little darker this Fall, as Samuel L. Jackson takes on the role of Martin Luther King Jr. in “The Mountaintop”.
Written by Katori Hall, this production of the play about the slain civil rights leader will mark Jackson’s broadway debut. And while a lead actress has not been named (rumors has it Angela Bassett will step in)—Halle Berry was slated to star, but backed out earlier this year—tickets are already on sale.
The show officially opens October 13 (with previews starting September 22), and will be directed by Kenny Leon, who most notably directed Denzel Washington and Viola Davis in their Tony Award winning performances in last year’s Broadway revival of August Wilson’s “Fences”.
Tickets range from $75 to $125, visit Telecharge.com or call (212) 239-6200 for more information. Tickets will also be available at the Jacobs Theatre on 242 West 45th Street starting August 11.
