EVENT// Monica Among those Honored At ASCAP’s 3rd Annual Women Behind the Music Series in NYC
Published by Blair Bedford on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 8:14 pm.(New York, NY) Some of the most influential women in R&B and soul music were honored for their contributions during ASCAP Rhythm and Soul’s 3rd Annual Women Behind the Music Series held November 9th at New York’s swanky Tenjune nightclub.
This year’s honorees included, SVP of Marketing at Motown Records, Phillana Williams; noted music executive, Mona Scott-Young; Grammy Award winning singer, Monica; and newly signed Roc Nation artist Bridget Kelly.
The honored guest shared stories of establishing themselves in the music industry through a moderated panel discussion.
“What I do think is important is that we turn around and reach out to the women that are trying to break into it and help give them a leg up. Those opportunities are few and far apart in between and we have to make sure that we are well-represented at all times,” said honoree Williams, who has helped nurture the careers of Usher and Outkast, among others.
Other prominent female performers, executives and publishers will be honored around the country, as ASCAP takes the event to Los Angeles and Atlanta.
