It’s been four years since production of Showtime At The Apollo ceased, But Centric is staging a revival of the popular show in the form of Apollo Live.

Executive producers Jamie Foxx, Marcus King, and Don Weiner have put a fresh spin on the classic “Amateur Night” variety show, enlisting veteran emcee Doug E. Fresh, and New Edition’s Michael Bivins to serve as judges; with comedian Tony Rock as host.

Much like its predecessor, the new show will welcome performances from some of music’s biggest and hottest stars.

For nearly eight decades, the Apollo Theater has served as a launch pad for a series of successful entertainers including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, James Brown, The Jackson 5, The Isley Brothers, Luther Vandross, and Lauryn Hill.

Apollo Live is set to premiere Fall 2012.
