(New York, NY) Deborah Cox walked the red carpet of the 4th Annual National High School Musical Theater Awards held at the Minskoff Theatre. The Grammy Award winning singer was on-hand at the event alongside Constantine Maroulis, her co-star in the upcoming Broadway revival of the musical Jekyll & Hyde, as the co-host of the show.
Elizabeth Romero, 18, from Fullerton, Calif., was named best actress and Joshua Grosso, 18, from Tampa, Fla., took home the award for best actor. Both winners received $10,000 scholarship awards, ending a months-long process that began with 50,000 students from 1,000 schools. Sixty finalists were invited to New York to compete for the title and make their Broadway debuts on the Minskoff Theatre stage.
The event attracted a few stage notables, including TONY Award nominated actress Montego Glover, star of the hit show, Memphis.
The NHS Musical Theater Awards focus national attention on the importance of theater arts education and heighten the profile of communities and school districts around the United States that provide musical theater study in their curriculum.
