When FELA! premiered on Broadway three years ago, it brought an excitement and point of view to the Great White Way that had never been seen. Now, the Bill T. Jones helmed project is back for a limited Summer engagement at New York’s Al Hirschfeld Theater.

Last night marked the show’s opening night, and it attracted a slew of celebrities including, Zoe Kravitz, Lillias White (who was nominated for a TONY Award for her portrayal of Funmilayo Anikulapo-Kuti in the original production), Leila Lopes, Amel Larrieux, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Questlove of The Roots—who is now a producer of the show.

FELA! tells the story of afrobeat pioneer and political activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti through arrangements of his own songs.

The limited, 32-performance engagement runs through Aug. 4 as a part of the production’s current world tour.
