The Hamptons got a heavy dose of African culture, as Evidence, A Dance Company hosted its 9th annual “On Our Toes”? In The Hamptons Summer Benefit.

This year’s event honored the legendary actress and activist, Ruby Dee with the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Gatekeeper Award; and acclaimed jazz musician and composer, Jason Moran with the company’s 2012 Visionary Gatekeeper Award.

The afternoon was highlighted by a special performance from the dance company of ‘Better Days,’ a piece choreographed by Founder and Artistic Director Ronald K. Brown.

Guests in attendance included, Star Jones, and former Essence Magazine editorial director Susan Taylor.
