BET NEWS On CENTRIC: 9/12/2012

Published by Blair Bedford on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 9:21 am.

1. More Americans Now Say They’re in the Lower Class
There’s a saying that when the rest of America gets a cold, African-Americans get pneumonia. It’s most frequently used to describe economic and social disparities, but according to a new survey from the Pew Research Center, just about everybody is feeling a little fluish these days.

As the nation struggles to recover from the economic crisis that took place in 2008, approximately one-third of Americans consider themselves to be in the lower-middle or lower class. While the percentage of Latinos and whites who now classify themselves as being in the lower class has increased by eight to 10 points, it is unchanged for African-Americans. The share of Blacks and whites, however, is now virtually the same, at 33 and 31 percent, respectively. [MORE]

2. Facebook Has Decided: Obama for President
The results are in!… on Facebook, that is. If the 2012 presidential election were held on Facebook, President Obama would win by a landslide, fan totals show.

President Obama boasts a towering 28.5 million Facebook fans, while his GOP opponent Mitt Romney has 6.6 million. [MORE]

3. Study: Young People Believe Oral Sex is Risk-Free
Just how popular is oral sex among American youth? A new survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that a whopping 75 percent of young people from ages 15 to 24 have engaged in oral sex.

Now let’s keep it real: This isn’t a huge shocker.

But what’s interesting is that the data also showed that young folks tend to believe that oral sex means “risk-free” sex, in comparison to vaginal or anal sex. Yes, oral sex presents lower risks than other forms of penetrative sex, but sex is never “risk-free.” [MORE]

4. Michael Clarke Duncan Laid to Rest
On Monday, Hollywood bid farewell to actor Michael Clarke Duncan, who was laid to rest at Forest Lawn cemetery in Tinsel Town.

Family, friends and colleagues of Duncan came out to remember the lovable, muscle-bound thespian. Among the celebs who comforted Duncan’s fiancée Omarosa Manigault were Jay Leno, Kimberly Elise, Holly Robinson Peete, Bill Duke, Diane Ladd, Vivica A. Fox and his Green Mile co-star Tom Hanks. [MORE]
