‘SPLASH’ Artist Spotlight// The Jolly Boys of Jamaica Set To Release New Album and Tour With Sade in The UK
Published by Justin Joseph on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 10:09 am.Touting Young Money rapper Drake as a fan, the legendary Jolly Boys of Jamaica are gaining a new generation of fans and gearing up for the May 3rd release of “Great Expectations”—their first album in 20 years.
The 12-track album, a collaborative project between producers Jon Baker and Wall of Sound’s Mark Jones, will feature a several interpretations of contemporary songs.
The group first garnered attention in the 1950’s playing mento, the original sound of their native country and the forerunner to the now popular genres of reggae and ska.
After over 60 years in music, The Jolly Boys are still able to move a crowd—hence the reason why they have been tapped as an opening act for the UK leg of Sade’s “Soldier of Love Tour“.
