Published by Justin Joseph on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 11:18 am.Group Members: Maverick, Swab, PZ, and J-Dante
Government Names:Maverick Cotton, Cedrick Cotton, Wayne Perry, J-Dante Green
Period of Relevance: 1999-2000
Claim to Fame: After performing over the phone and live for Virgin Records executive, Eric Brooks; and searching and subsequently choosing a name out of the dictionary (go figure), IDEAL was officially born. Brothers Maverick and Swab, their cousin PZ and friend J-Dante recorded, “Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)”, which was featured on the soundtrack for 1996’s Original Gangstas. While the song only hit #94 on the Billboard R&B chart, things would change three years later.
In 1999, the quartet released their official first single, “Get Gone”, that proved to be a hit. The song reached #2 and #13 on the Billboard R&B and Hot 100 charts respectively. The success of the single, pushed their debut self-titled album into gold selling success (selling 615,000 copies), and spawned the R&B hits “Whatever” and “Creep Inn”
Decline: The group just seemingly disappeared.
Last Seen: While three of the group members have not been heard from—apparently most of them live in Los Angeles—group member Swab landed on notorious gossip site, MediaTakeOut.com in 2007, for reportedly being broke, depressed and an abuser.
If you, or anyone you know, is aware of their whereabouts please let us know.
