THE HOT 10// Happy 41st Birthday Questlove Playlist
Published by Justin Joseph on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 5:04 pm.When Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson landed the #8 spot on Rolling Stone’s “Readers Pick For Best Drummers of All Time” last year, it was clear that he had solidified his position as one of the greats in not only the minds of the masses, but in music history. For over two decades the Philadelphia born and bred musician has toured the world as the co-founding member of The Roots—releasing ten albums and winning four Grammy Awards. Undoubtedly, Thompson’s career is what many in his field strive to achieve. He has worked with everyone from Christina Aguilera to N*E*R*D, and has produced music for the likes of Jay Z, Erykah Badu, Common, John Legend and Amy Winehouse.
Donning a slightly untamed afro—that has become his staple—and brandishing a musicality that is soulful, yet flexible enough to cross genre lines; he has joined the school of Ringo Starr, Dave Grohl, Tommy Lee and Travis Barker—drummers who have managed to make themselves household names, becoming equally—if not more—popular to the front man on vocals. Of course his current stint as the bandleader on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, has only heightened his profile.
Today, January 20, marks Quest’s 41st birthday. In celebration, #TheHot10 has compiled a special playlist of our favorite hits performed or produced by him.
