MUSIC NEWS// The Late Beastie Boy, Adam “MCA” Yauch, Covers Rolling Stone, Queen Latifah Performs At The Long Beach Gay Pride Festival & D’Angelo Talks Music and Marvin Gaye

Published by Blair Bedford on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 9:41 am.

1. Adam “MCA” Yauch Covers Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone magazine dedicated its latest cover to Adam “MCA” Yauch, the late member of the legendary hip hop group the Beastie Boys. The article features the first interviews with surviving Beasties Adam “Ad-Rock” Horowitz and Mike “Mike D” Diamond as well as tributes from friends like Spike Jonze, Billy Corgan and Rick Rubin.

“I’m totally confused,” Horowitz shares. “I’m walking my dog and I’ll start crying on the street.” [MORE]

2. D’Angelo Talks Leaving Music and Recurring Dreams of Marvin Gaye
It’s been 17 years since D’Angelo released his platinum-selling debut album Brown Sugar. The last decade of the neo-soul singer’s career has been marked by a prolonged absence from the music scene that has left fans wondering what happened to the promising talent. Now that the star is ready to stage his comeback, GQ magazine sat down with the man to talk with him about his rough journey back into the limelight. In an insightful story, the magazine gets to the heart of why D’Angelo left in the first place, his road to recovery and the visions of Marvin Gaye that haunted him for years. [MORE]

3. Queen Latifah Performs for “Her People” at Gay Pride Event
Queen Latifah didn’t make any big announcements at the Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival last weekend, but it seems she invited the world to read between the lines.

The hip hop queen, whose sexuality has been the source of speculation for years, told the 10,000-strong crowd, “I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time.” She then went on to perform her hits “U.N.I.T.Y” and “Ladies First.” [MORE]
