RETRO CENTRIC: Black Men United – “You Will Know”

Published by Justin Joseph on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 7:53 am.

Although it was a Billboard R&B hit, 1994’s “You Will Know” by Black Men United, was and is quite possibly one of the most epic—and slept on—moments in the history of Black music. Written by D’Angelo, the song featured Lenny Kravitz and Raphael Saadiq on guitar, and every hot R&B male act of the day: Aaron Hall, After 7, Al B. Sure!, Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Christopher Williams, Damion Hall, El DeBarge, Gerald LeVert, H-Town, Intro, Joe, Portrait, R. Kelly, Silk, Stokley Williams of Mint Condition, Tevin Campbell, Usher, and Keith Sweat.

Composed for the soundtrack for the film, Jason’s Lyric, the song peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart, and number 28 on The Hot 100.
