1. Mariah Carey Joins American Idol as New Judge
After weeks of speculation FOX’s American Idol has announced that Mariah Carey will serve as a new judge during their upcoming season. The renowned vocalist will join Randy Jackson in judging aspiring singers, filling one of the two open spots that was left vacant by the departures of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.
“It’s the biggest recording artist than any of these [singing competition] shows have ever had,” said Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly during a press tour on Monday. “It’s an artist many of these contestants have tried to emulate. 2. G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer Pushed to September
G.O.O.D. music fans will have to wait a little bit longer for the arrival of Cruel Summer. The compilation album from Kanye West and associates has been pushed back to September 4 from an originally planned release date of August 7. [MORE]
3. Whitney Houston Gets Grammy Museum Exhibit
L.A. Live’s Grammy Museum will honor Whitney Houston with an exhibit that will commemorate the late music legend’s legacy. Opening August 15, “Whitney! Celebrating the Musical Legacy of Whitney Houston” will showcase some of Houston’s memorabilia, including the beloved white beaded gown she wore at the 1994 Grammy Awards when she won album of the year for The Bodyguard soundtrack, and her personal Bible.
“We are particularly excited to showcase her long connection to the Grammy Awards show and to celebrate the musical genius that made her one of America’s most-awarded pop and soul vocalists,” said Robert Santelli, the executive director of the Grammy Museum. [MORE]
4. Mary J. Blige Joins NBC’s “The Voice”
Mary J. Blige will share her talents as an adviser on NBC’s “The Voice” this fall. The Queen of Hip Hop-Soul will share years of experience and wisdom with the hopeful singers as a mentor for Adam Levine’s team, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Mary J. Blige,” said Levine in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “So it’s been great having her on ‘The Voice’ as an adviser to my team.” [MORE]
