En Vogue Is Feuding; Members Dawn & Maxine To Form New Version Of Group
Published by Justin Joseph on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 6:45 am.Why can’t girl groups ever get along? Popular R&B quartet, En Vogue—who has seen it’s fair share of group drama—is now embattled in a dispute that has the group split right down the middle—Dawn Robinson and Maxine Jones on one side, and Terry Ellis and Cindy Herron on the other.
“MAXINE & I HAVE LEFT THE BUILDING & NOW WE’RE REHEARSING FOR AN EV TOUR W 2 “NEW” GIRLS. WE WILL BE IN UR CITY SOON SO COME PARTY WITH US!” tweeted Robinson, who originally left the group in 1997 after contractual agreements went sour, only to return in 2008.
While the reason behind the abrupt announcement has not been revealed, Ellis and Herron released a joint statement via the group’s Facebook:
“Dear En Vogue fans,
In regards to the recent twitter and face book posts alleging that Terry and Cindy have replaced Maxine Jones with Rhona [Bennett], we would like to respond. Terry and Cindy are not replacing Maxine Jones. We have however asked Rhona to fill in temporarily so that we can continue to bring live shows to our fans. Thus far, Rhona has only done three shows with us since June 2012. The group has always added someone whenever a member has been unable or unwilling to perform or has left the group. Terry and I have not kicked Maxine out of the group. There are always two sides to a story and many internal facts that you the fans aren’t hearing about. In an effort to not air dirty laundry, or appear to point the finger at anyone, we respectfully choose to remain silent on the internal issues. We appreciate you the fans continuing to support En Vogue individually, and as a whole.
Thank you,
Cindy and Terry”
Bennett, best known for her recurring role on The Jamie Foxx Show joined the group in 2002. She toured with the group through the mid 00s, and even was featured on the group’s sixth studio, Soul Flower. She left the group upon the reunion of the original members, who launched a 2010 tour in celebration of their 20th anniversary.
