1. Diddy Named Richest Rapper
A new list of hip hop’s wealthiest stars has reaffirmed Diddy’s status as the world’s most valuable rapper. The list of 20 artists and moguls, published by Celebrity Net Worth, places the Bad Boy Records founder at the top with a personal net worth of $500 million. Jay-Z follows closely behind with a net worth of $475 million.
The list echoes the findings of another report published earlier this year by Forbes, which also had Diddy and Jay in the one and two spots. The Celebrity Net Worth list is more extensive, however, and also includes Master P ($350 million), Eminem ($120 million) and Rick Ross ($25 million). [MORE]
2. Emeli Sandé Performs at London Olympics Opening Ceremony
Scottish soul child Emeli Sandé made a surprise appearance at the London Olympics opening ceremony on Friday (July 27). Singing the hymn “Abide With Me,” the 25-year-old was the only fresh-faced female star to come out and grace the famous athletic stage in the United Kingdom in song.
“I am extremely proud and humbled to be part of the amazing ceremony, which will allow the world to see some of the best up-and-coming and established talent the U.K. has produced,” Sandé stated. [MORE]
3. Mary J. Blige Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of What’s the 411?
On July 28, 1992, hip hop soul queen Mary J. Blige released her iconic debut album What’s the 411?. The singer celebrated the record’s 20th anniversary over the weekend and looked back on how far she’s come in her music and personal life.
“It means everything because it was the beginning of everything that I do,” she told AOL’s The BoomBox. “It was the beginning of the 20-year career span that I have. Just the longevity and the fan base and the building of that.” [MORE]
