PLAYLIST: Happy 41st Birthday DJ Spinderella of Salt-N-Pepa
Published by Justin Joseph on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 11:07 am.Without contest, DJ Spinderella definitely has a place in the musical landscape of legendary hip hop DJs. The Brooklyn, New York native joined the already established Salt-N-Pepa in 1986, replacing the ousted original Spinderella, DJ Latoya Hanson. But while many can’t recall the name of her predecessor, Spin (nee Deidra Muriel Roper) proved that she was more than a background player, helping the group land the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “None of Your Business” in 1995.
Fastforward to the noughties, and Spinderella has been touring globally, hitting the one and twos in clubs across the country. She has served as a red carpet correspondent for Vh1’s Hip Hop Honors, provided music for The Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav, and has hosted two nationally syndicated radio shows.
Today, marks her 41st birthday, and we’re celebrating with a playlist of Salt-N-Pepa’s greatest hits.
