e 1973, the name Chaka Khan has been synonymous with what’s good in music. In nearly four decades the Chicago native has released 12 critically acclaimed solo albums, six gold and platinum albums as a member of Rufus, and won ten Grammy Awards—and she’s showing no signs of stopping.
Next year will mark Chaka’s 40th anniversary in music, and she’s celebrating in a major way—rightfully so. The singer will toast to her milestone with a year long celebration that includes the release of a new album, a gourmet chocolate line (Chakalates), and a unisex fragrance line (Khana Sutra).
“I am honored and blessed to celebrate 40 years in music and entertainment. I am so humbled by the love, support and gracious spirit of my fans worldwide and the continuous support my peers have shown over the years,” said the 59 year old singer. “Throughout my 40-year career, I have been through the fire a few times over and I’m still here as a living testament to God’s love and grace. Next year, I will be celebrating 40 years in the business and 60 years on earth, which equals one hundred percent Chaka.”
The year will be rounded out with an international and North American tour, and a possible biopic— Khan’s life is being adapted into a screenplay from her 2003 autobiography Through the Fire.
