Cassie’s road to her sophomore album has been a long one. Six years since the release of her self-titled debut album, the model-turned-singer has been dropping tunes—some of them hitting in the club and some falling flat. The latest effort: “Balcony” featuring Young Jeezy.

While the song finds Cas tip toeing into a lane now occupied by Jhene Aiko, it’s not half-bad—as in not half bad for an album cut. But, with her need for landing a hot single becoming greater as the years go by, it would be a good idea for her to revisit the formula she channeled on “King of Hearts.”

Note to Cassie: Go after the dance, rhythmic and soul house fusion audiences.
