Brandy Puts It Down At New York City Concert
Published by Justin Joseph on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 9:54 am.Brandy is back to business! The Grammy Award winning singer hit the stage of New York City’s Best Buy Theater with the ease of a veteran whose grown comfortable in their voice and the ferociousness of a new artist presenting a stage swagger that the world has never seen.
As she opened her set with a groove heavy version of her 2002 hit “What About Us”, it was clear Bran was on a mission of re-introducing herself and proving those YouTube vids of her singing in her bathroom were not those of a singer gone down hill, but merely practice.
She effortlessly eased through a set of the old (“Sittin’ Up In My Room,” “Best Friend,” “I Wanna Be Down”) and the new (“Wildest Dreams” and “Put It Down”).
Perhaps the highlight of the night was her tribute to her “idol” the late Whitney Houston, who ironically passed this year on Brandy’s birthday (February 11). Her velvety voiced renditions of “How Will I Know” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” were noteworthy, and would make Houston proud.
This performance was veritable “I’m sorry” to fans for her 2010 album, Human—which was a commercial and critical disappointment—and a solid indication that the women of R&B—new and old—need to take note. Brandy is back indeed.
Two Eleven is available on iTunes now.
