NAS TALKS OBAMA, GURU AND MUSIC

Published by on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 7:42 am.

the.LIFE Files Sits Down With Nas!! from the.LIFE Files on Vimeo.

[the.LIFE Files] Nas talks about Barack Obama, the recent passing of Guru, and perhaps most importantly, his upcoming Distant Relatives album with Damian Marley. Often, Nas’ interviews don’t come across as convincing as his lyrics, but this is an interesting watch/listen despite its casual nature.

Many music heads and celebrity followers peg Nas a few notches under Jay-Z because he hasn’t shown the acumen for juggling record labels, clothing lines and other businesses ventures. But as his former Manager Steve Stoute states, he “simply isn’t that type of artist.” The comparison is faulty. His clothing partnerships with Willie Esco, FILA, and 310 Motoring Shoes were laughable at worst and forgettable at best. In an industry where artists put music on the backburner for outside ventures for the dollar…listeners should be grateful.—William E. Ketchum III
