Thirty years ago today, Ronald Reagan was president, a gallon of gas was $1.30, the cost of a stamp was .20 cents, and Evelyn Champagne King had the number one Billboard R&B song in the country with “Love Come Down“—a spot she would hold for five consecutive weeks.
Produced by Morrie Brown and written by Kashif, the 1982 song was the first single off her multi-platinum, number-one R&B album, Get Loose.
In the U.S., it reached number one on the R&B and dance charts and number seventeen on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also managed to become a top 20 hit in The UK, France and Japan.
