GRACE JONES: Revealing the Past, But Not the Present
Published by Jasmine Johnson on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 8:54 am.Upon promotion for her upcoming tour dates in the UK, Grace Jones offered a new insight into what her life was like during the height of her career and the lessons she’s learned. Beginning with her nightlife, Jones dispelled notions of the world famous New York discothèque, Studio 54. “It was cool in the sense [that] there was moderation, believe it or not,” said the icon to U.K. talk show host Alan Carr. “That way you could have conversation. You know, you didn’t go home with your dress kind of torn off of you like I’ve done a few times [elsewhere].” Grace Jones says in contrast to what’s been written about the “notorious” nightspot, there were far worse ones than Studio 54 such as The Garage which, “Opened at four, with a blend of juices… and they used to spike it, because actually they didn’t have a liquor license so you know, hey let’s put acid inside!”
But it seems the past is the only information that Jones doesn’t mind dishing on, as she remains hush-hush about the present—namely the latest love in her life. “Yeah, I’m seeing someone and I don’t want to say who it is because there was a time in my life where everyone knew who I was seeing and before I knew it all my girlfriends were after him and all my boyfriends were after him too.” Jones has evolved a lot in her time from singer to actress and fashion icon with no plans to stop any time soon.
