BEHIND THE GROOVE// Teedra Moses and Marsha Ambrosius Rock NYC
Published by Danielle Young on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 1:44 pm.New York radio station 98.7 Kiss FM knew exactly what they were doing when they booked Teedra Moses and Marsha Ambrosius at S.O.B.s for their Side Party concert series. These two R&B songstresses drew an amazing crowd last night as they crooned their old and new hits.
Before and in between sets, 98.7 Kiss FM’s own DJ Qua rocked the wheels of steel, blasting throwbacks such as Cameo’s “Candy” and Soul II Soul’s “Back to Life.”
Teedra hit the stage like a firecracker. The petite songbird connected with the crowd through sarcasm and sass. At one point, she needed a drink of water and told the photographers that they could use the time to take pictures of her legs. I even heard someone behind me say, “Oh, I like her!” Teedra performed hits from her first album, Complex Simplicity as well as her latest, Royal Patience. Fans were singing her lines word for word and she made a joke about loving that they know the words, but they’re messing her up. She kept us all laughing and wanting more of her honey-sweet vibrato.
When Marsha Ambrosius came on stage, fans took to her sense of humor immediately as she went from singing her famed tunes, “Getting Late,” “Co-Star,” and “Butterflies,” to jokingly singing Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love” and Guy’s “Piece of My Love.” The crowd was fully engaged, singing the words almost louder than her. The highlight of the night was her performance of “I Hope She Cheats.” It was almost like the song was an anthem for the entire night. Check out these pics from the show!
